How to Clean Nail Clippers

Overview

Nail clippers that are not properly and routinely cleaned can spread fungus and bacteria, especially if more than one person uses the same clippers.

Step 1
Heat two or three cups of water in a pot on the stove. You need only enough water to completely submerge the nail clippers, plus about a quarter-inch. You want the water to be quite warm, but it needn't be scalding or boiling.

Step 2
Remove the pot from the stove and drop the nail clippers into the warm water.

Step 3
Pour three or four drops of liquid soap into the water.

Step 4
Soak the clippers in the warm, soap-filled water for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 5
Remove the nail clippers and dry them with the rag or a clean dish towel.

Step 6
Put a few drops of rubbing alcohol onto a cotton swab and run the swab lightly over the entire surface of the nail clippers. This will act as a disinfectant, killing germs.

Step 7
Dry the clippers carefully with the rag, making sure all alcohol and water are removed so the clippers do not rust.
